Privacy Policy
This is a deliberately minimal-data service. Most of what you tell the guide never reaches us at all — it lives only in your browser.
About this policy
Ikigai Explorer (referred to here as "we", "us", or "the Service") is provided by Technique Accounting Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 07701567) with registered office at 29 Greenford Gardens, Greenford. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. This document explains what we collect, how it is used, who else processes it on our behalf, and your rights.
We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration number [ICO registration number].
What we collect
When you visit the website. Cloudflare, our hosting and edge security provider, automatically logs your IP address and basic request information for security and performance. This data is held only briefly and is not linked to any identity.
When you purchase a session. Your payment is processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe shares with us a payment confirmation containing your email address, the amount paid, and a transaction reference. A session token is then created and stored in our database for the duration of your session (up to 7 days from purchase). This token is linked to your payment but contains no personal information itself.
During the conversation. Your conversation is sent to an AI model (provided by Anthropic, accessed via the OpenRouter platform) and the response is returned to your browser. We do not store the contents of your conversation on our servers at any point. The conversation history lives only in your browser tab — when you close it or click "Start over", it is gone.
The letter we generate at the end is also held only in your browser unless you choose to download or share it.
If you choose to share with the counsellor. When you click "Email letter" or "Email transcript", your browser composes an email using your own email client. We do not receive or process this email — it goes directly from you to the counsellor.
What we do not collect
- We do not store the contents of your conversation on any server.
- We do not use your conversation to train AI models. Anthropic does not train on API data, and OpenRouter does not train on your data either.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with marketers, advertisers, or any third party not listed in this policy.
- We do not use tracking pixels, advertising cookies, or behavioural analytics.
How we use your information
We use the limited information we collect only to:
- Process your payment and deliver the service you have paid for
- Maintain the security of the website and prevent abuse
- Comply with legal obligations (for example, tax record-keeping)
Lawful bases for processing
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) — to provide the paid service.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — for security, fraud prevention, and operating the website.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) — for tax and other statutory record-keeping.
Who we share it with
We use the following third parties to operate the Service. Each is a "data processor" acting on our instructions and under its own privacy commitments:
- Stripe — payment processing. stripe.com/privacy
- Cloudflare — hosting, edge security, and database. cloudflare.com/privacypolicy
- OpenRouter — AI model proxy. openrouter.ai/privacy
- Anthropic — AI model provider. anthropic.com/legal/privacy
How long we keep it
- Cloudflare access logs: short retention period per Cloudflare's standard policy.
- Payment records held by Stripe: retained per Stripe's standard retention and applicable tax law (six years in the UK for accounting purposes).
- Session tokens in our database: 7 days from purchase, then deleted.
- Conversation contents: never retained on our servers.
Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Be informed about how your data is used (this policy)
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected
- Request erasure of your data
- Restrict how we process your data
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Object to processing
- Not be subject to automated decision-making with significant effect on you
Because we hold very little personal information, most requests are simple to fulfil. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ikigaiexplorer.co.uk.
You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
International transfers
Some of our service providers process data outside the UK. Stripe, Cloudflare, OpenRouter, and Anthropic are based in the United States and Europe. All transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards: standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions, or equivalent measures.
Children
This service is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the Service, please contact us so we can investigate.
Cookies
We do not use marketing or tracking cookies. Cloudflare may set technical cookies necessary for the site to function and to provide security. These cannot be disabled without breaking the site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted with an updated "last updated" date. Where material changes affect existing customers, we will notify affected users by email where possible.
